Stakeholder Discussion on Technology in Fertilizer Industry
Jakarta, 22nd February 2016. Fertilizer industry is one of the sector that continuously growing in Indonesia. The increasing demand of rice has made fertilizer become the important sector to be developed in the country. Reaching the production target, fertilizer industries are also encouraged to reduce their impact to the climate change by reducing their Green House Gasses (GHG) emission. In 2016, PAKLIM supports Ministry of Industry in the development of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) in fertilizer industry. Organized by PAKLIM, a half-day discussion related with market and technologies in fertilizer industry was held at Ministry of Industry by inviting Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions (TKIS). The meeting was participated by Director Sales & Business Development –TKIS Indonesia, national expert from TKIS Indonesia, Head of Sales – TKIS Asia Pacific, and from Hydrogen & Nitrates Division TKIS Germany; and also representatives from Ministry of Industry: , Research and Development Center for Green Industry and Environment (PIHLH) and Directorate of Upstream Chemical Industry. Bapak Lintong Sopandi Hutahaean as Head of PIHLH opened the meeting by expressing his gratitude and stated that fertilizer industry is a sector that is ready to be introduced with the new technology market. He also expressed his expectation from the meeting to gain information on types of technologies which are suitable to be implemented in Indonesian fertilizer industry. A presentation from TKIS was shared, including explanations of the company as provider for technology solution for industries. Annual existing condition of fertilizer demand world-wide was also shown, which is increasing every year. Fertilizer industry is a promising business in Indonesia, but to make it become a profitable business, some improvement is needed. It was discussed that there are many strategies to increase the efficiency of the plant, for instance by combining the urea plant, nitric acid plant, and phosphoric acid plant into one centralized plant. There are a lot of strategies that can be implemented in fertilizer industry, but to get the best option, the decision should be taken based on the preliminary study and focused on the objective of the plant development. Ministry of Industry found this meeting very useful in gaining their knowledge. Throughout 2016, PAKLIM will continue to support them in identifying the most suitable and appropriate mitigation actions for fertilizer industry.
