A cooperation between Indonesian Pulp and Paper Association (APKI), Ministry of Industry, and PAKLIM is engaging the pulp and paper industries to contribute in national action plan on reducing Greenhouse Gas emission through the introduction of ISO 26000 on Social Responsibility. ISO 26000 is an international standard guideline with reference to the Seven Core subjects of social responsibility (Organizational Government, Human Rights, Labor Practices, The Environment, Fair Operating Practices, Consumer Issues, and Community Involvement). It is a good guidance for the private sector in increasing sustainable business practices. It is hoped that by having deeper understanding about ISO 26000, companies will be able to measure their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and perform their own review on the program’s achievement.
Result gained from Workshop I and II on ISO 26000 for Pulp and Paper industry in 2014 showed that that there is still a need for pulp and paper industries to develop long term programs, instead of short term activities for their CSR programs. Hence, PAKLIM is supporting the participating companies to further develop their CSR programs, with Environment as the core subject. In relation to the climate change mitigation actions, ISO 26000 will stand as a tool to support companies on identification of direct and indirect emissions resources with also identifying their climate change mitigation action plans.
Workshop on “Coaching and Managing Action Plan: CSR based on ISO 26000” is held for 2 days. On the 1st day, it discusses about Environmental Issue with long term planning, where the participants can learn how to develop a road map and identify the environmental issues and challenges. Whilst on the 2nd day, the participants learn how to develop CSR program planning using Logical Framework Approach, determining assumptions, means of verification, activities, and resources.
